In a Vase on Monday - Late Harvest end of November

I have no greenhouse or cold frame..but I am happy to play the game of moving plants around to gain the greatest benefit for them, from a window sill, to the conservatory to the patio.  A few years ago I bought a chilli plant from Waitrose, and kept it going for three years, then last October just scattered a few seeds at the base of the mother plant.  A few seedling were potted on, and all except one given away.  The whole plant was covered in ripened fruits, but with a sign that some greenfly were starting their assault on the plant.  Before tackling the infestation, I picked all the fruits.

A few roses are surviving the winds and rains.  Cathy who hosts this meme is also featuring roses this week.  In the vase at the back is Shropshire Lad which is not opening well, but in the foreground is Crown Princess Margareta.  Both plants were acquired in the Winter of 2013, and are only slowly adapting to their new homes.  I am really pleased at how Crown Princess Margareta is performing in the low light...David Autins's site does say that it is ideal in shade, so I am beginning to think that it is well suited to these low light days.  I placed the roses in my narrow vase, but then just put that in my pot on the Kitchen Window sill in which I usually have a pot of basil growing.

I moved the arrangement to Conservatory where there is better light, and still the beautiful deep apricot blooms of Crown Princess Margareta glow in the low winter light.

  2. such a pretty rose - I love the blousy shape which reminds me of a peony and wonderful to have such a beauty in your garden at this time of the year.

  4. I am so pleased to see these roses, Noelle, as I have just received my CPM which will be on the front two posts of the revamped rose arbour - perhaps mine will be flowering at the end of November next year...? ;) That is such a useful vase you have and the roses look lovely in it - and well done for all those chillies - will you freeze them now?

    1. Those roses will look so good on your arbour, and you'll be able to get right up close to admire the blooms. The little chili plant gives so many, that I don't freeze them, I just give them away...to anyone whom I see who wants some! I'm thinking of stringing them up to make decorations.

    1. I think it is because I gave it a good prune after the first flush, and fed and mulched it too..but then the weather has been quite strange, with plants giving a good second flush of blooms.

  6. Sadly I've lost R. A Shropshire Lad this year so how lovely to see yours. The roses are so beautiful for so late in the year.

  8. Ah, a rose that can tolerate some shade - what a wonder! I'll have to look into its availability here, especially as I love that color.

  9. I love the apricot color of your Crown Princess Margareta, and such great form, too. They look marvelous in the white vase and sunlight, and I imagine they smell lovely like all the Austin roses, Noelle.

    1. I'm on the lookout for a 'proper' white vase...rather than this cache pot. I have been inspired by both white and black vases which others have posted.

  10. Crown Princess Margareta is such a lovely rose! You're so lucky to have things still blooming.
The chilis would make a nice Christmas garland, don't you think?

  12. Rose shopping is on the list here Noelle and 'A Shropshire Lad' is one of the contenders so I'm glad that I read your post. Does he have much scent? Crown Princess Margareta looks a beautiful colour and shape.
