In a Vase on Monday - Memories of the past Year

It may be that some of us have overdone the richness of Christmas and would benefit from more 'greens'....for greens go to Cathy's post.  I love greens in the garden and to eat...and there are some fine examples there.

My posy IAVOM this last day of 2018, because of the usually mild weather this year, is made up of blooms which normally will have been over by now, but remind me of arrangements during the past year.

Fuchsia Hawkshead, Jasmine Nudifolium which flowers throughout the winter, Fuchsia hemsleyana 'Silver Lining', Lophomyrtus ralphii Little Star,  a flower from Heuchera americana, and the spot of blue is from Salvia Corrugata, which is growing well in the open ground but sheltered by a stone wall and under the overhang of the Holm Oak.

Salvia Corrugata

Looking back at where the garden was this time last year, I can see that it had advanced well.  For gardeners, this time of year is the one for planning, with high expectations for the coming year.  Catalogues and wish lists are frequently referred to and updated.  The difficult part is working out where to fit plants in.

Wishing everyone joining in with In a Vase on Monday, and here I certainly include the lookers on....a Happy New Year

  2. Hello Noelle, your posy, though completely different from mine, isn't so different at all. We've both found plants that are not usually in flower at this time of the year. I've already ordered and received several packets of seeds with no idea where I'm going to put them - not the seedlings as they grow and not the plants when they are ready to go out! I can see me having to give away the surplus and that's no bad thing. Wishing you and yours a very happy 2019.

  3. A pretty posy. I've got quite a few odd things flowering and it is good to see them on these grey days. In the meantime, as you say, lots of planning is going on. x

  4. I clicked the wrong button and lost my comment (or pressed publish too early...?). I was saying how the heuchera blooms puzzled me at first and how pretty the fuchsia is. Such a sweet little posy! Happy planning!

  6. I adore that Salvia. I smiled when I saw the 'Hawkshead' fuchsia as I briefly considering cutting the one and only tiny spray of flowers on mine for today's vase; however, I let it stay put for another vase (assuming it survives the nasty Santa Ana winds that are due to reappear this afternoon).

    Happy new year, Noelle!

  7. Oh that salvia is a most glorious colour Noelle. My fuschia which might be 'Hawkshead' had to be drastically pruned a month ago which upset me as it was full of flower :( Unfortunately it was overhanging a path clear access to which the delivery of a new washing machine relied on. Wishing you a most happy and healthy New Year and much fun in your garden xxx
