In a Vase on Monday - Threes

Feeling like something simple.....

 Aeonium Schwarzkopf

Almost without colour except the dark summer near black of  Aeonium Schwarzkopf.

I heard that a friends lost her mother this last week, a sad event.

I have been pondering and contemplating the meaning of life.

I'm suffering from a 'surfeit' of being jollied along, of enticements to be stimulated, of changing variety.

My life is fine as it is, even the humdrum is good.  Analogy: my wooden bowl is beautiful, no need for gilding and glitter.

  1. It looks like your simple arrangements make a statement that adequately fits your contemplation of life. Death has a way of sobering us up to what really matters. I find that life is so much better and simpler than I usually realize. It takes a shocking event to usually wake me up to realize that life is good and best in it's most simple form.

  2. Something simple is good! We don't strip things back to basics nearly enough and there is no much to be discovered underneath all the details, frills, froth and fiddly bits of our lives these days. Don't need most of it but what is important is that strong framework upon which to build - like your three bold Aeoniums standing firm! 3. This is inspired, Noelle - such a stark grouping, just as there is life, or there is death. And thank you for giving a thumbs up to the humdrum - I am with you on that, as every day is an adventure, whatever it holds for us

  4. Aeonium is a fantastic plant in all its various incarnations and it sounds as though this one fits your current state of mind. At the present time, finding comfort in what's sweet, familiar and simple is essential to staying centered. Take care Noelle.

    1. Thanks Kris, a few days of simple things helps to keep me grounded. I'm sure I shall have a peep for wider horizons soon.

  5. The aeonium looks quite sombre, reflecting your mood I think. I assume the stems will be planted up? I am hopeless with aeoniums and have managed to keep one alive but it is tall and lopsided! Hooe your week is a peaceful one Noelle.

    1. If you like them and want to grow them well, there are just a few tricks. I'll post some more growing tips soon, and if you type aeoniums in the search engine at the top left hand side of my pages, you'll find them all fairly easily.

  6. I really connect with your "humdrum is good" sentiment and your powerfully simple group of three.
