In a Vase on Monday - Potentilla

When a friend visited the garden a few days ago, there was one plant which particularly appealed to her. Last year I moved a seedling to another position, and having seen her garden in turn, I could just see how well it would go. On Sunday I cut down all the flowering stems, and put them in a bucket, then dug up the plant and potted it up. Win, win, win: Sue will have a lovely plant, I now have a lovely space to plant other things, and I have a bucket full of flowers.

I still have enough for one plant for another couple of vases.  Here the 'vase' is an art deco glass vase.  With the flowers up at eye level I noticed some attractive details with the pollen golden in the centres.

and when the pollen has worked its magic, the small strawberry seed heads are equally attractive.

Another super plus point about this plant with its strawberry like leaves, is that slugs and snails leave it alone.  This plant came as a little seedling from Alison who also posts on Six on Saturday, as we live in neighbouring towns, it is always a joy to meet up, as we did last week.  And we each enjoy seeing how our gardens are evolving. To think this friendship all started thanks to Cathy who hosts this weekly get together.

    1. I was very pleased to accept the gift from Alison, and why not share such a superb garden plant with friends. The seed seems quite viable, and the seedlings really tiny at first, so I shall probably try to plant a few in a safe nursery bed to bulk up, without the danger of their being overshadowed by other plants.

  3. That is such a pretty colour of potentilla, Noelle, and a lovely gesture of friendship it was to pass on the plant they came from to your friend, especially following the original gift from Alison. It certainly seems that what goes round, comes round...

    1. The younger plant is flowering beautifully, so I still have a wonderful plant originally from Alison, and I am watching the other little seedlings, so it seems I shall be able to share more in due course.

  5. Oh that is a most pretty potentilla Noelle. It's interesting what you notice when you see flowers close to hand. Is that the same Alison who set up a flower farm? If so I hope that all is going well for her.

    1. Yes that is the same lovely person. I went to visit her a couple of weeks ago, and she was well thank you, and her garden full of flowers.

  6. I love the flower's color - it makes me think of a ripe watermelon. Congratulations on a plan that makes everybody happy!

    1. You have described the colour beautifully Kris, and with the dark centre the colour of the seeds too, spot on.

  7. I think my comment just disappeared. So I will try again. It is the prettiest Potentilla flower I have ever seen, and I think it is lovely how you have now shared the pleasure of it with a friend too!

    1. This one will be shared again and again, it grows well in this area, and as the slugs leave it alone, it is perfect for this area. I just need to try and grow some from seed to try to get plants for 2022!
